For this piece, I chose to explore the sexual boundaries of art. This is unquestionably a painting, and painting is an artistic technique, but the subject is graphically sexual. Is the work artistic or pornographic? Is there a sliding scale? Where does that boundary lie?

The unstable balance of internet freedoms vs censorship (often far over-reaching) on widely used social and shopping sites only adds confusion. For example, a drawn or painted nipple is flagged on Facebook, but merely check one box on sites like Reddit and you can see and post far more explicit images than this.

But it's either art or it isn't, it either has cultural value, or it doesn't, right? Or can something paradoxically exist as both culturally relevant and irredeemably base simultaneously? Does not the creation of an object - physical or digital - at any particular point in time serve justify its relevance merely by its own existence, regardless of how many are uncomfortable with it?

Perhaps, or perhaps not. The world is still undergoing great change and turmoil adapting to the digital revolution, and 'Clearly Kinky' was influenced by such factors. With more curtailing of free expression online, a future is possible where a large enough coalition of businesses, politicians, and censorship advocates can force erotic creators to cease work or go far underground.

It's been said that my generation could be the last who makes art depicting the natural world. Could we also be living in the last age of "open" and accessible sexuality?

Frequently Asked Questions

Custom and personalized orders

Yes. Convo me and tell me about your desired art. If I can do it, I'll quote you a price that is based on the size, medium, and complexity of the piece. The price will be firm and non-negotiable, and it will rarely be greater than 100% more than my comparable non-custom work. If you agree to the price, a non-refundable deposit of 50% of the total price is due immediately. When I finish the work, I'll send you an image of the piece. If you approve, the second 50% of the total is due, and I'll put the art in the mail. If you do not like the final product, I will make minor revisions one time, if possible. If you do not like the revision, or revision is not possible, the transaction is complete and finished.
